Joseph G. Penkala, J.D.
Joe is the president and founder of Compass Strategies, LLC. He focuses his representation on companies with market capitalizations ranging from $50M to $10B operating in the healthcare, biotechnology, defense and homeland security sectors.
Joe has been interviewed about political and military affairs in several publications to include The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Boston Herald and TIME Magazine.
Previously, Joe worked at an investment firm that assisted small and medium sized companies obtain capital through public and private placements. He continues to help encourage the development of emerging growth companies through his involvement on the legislative committee of BioFlorida, Florida's statewide industry association dedicated to expanding the state's life science base.
Joe is the former executive director of a state political party, served as finance director for a United States senator and as a finance consultant to a successful gubernatorial campaing. He was also Senator John McCain's national service academy outreach coordinator for McCain's 2000 presidential campaign. Joe has managed a high-profile U.S. Congressional race and has worked on numerous campaigns in Florida, Louisiana, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island.
Joe served on former U.S. Representative E. Clay Shaw's service academy nomination board and on Florida Governor Charlie Crist's statewide veterans policy advisory committee. He is a member of the Palm Beach County Republican Executive Committee, representing District 3.
Joe is a veteran of both the Iraq War and the initial NATO deployment to Bosnia. He has served as both an artillery officer and in the Judge Advocate General's office where he partcipated in the review of government contracts. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army Airborne School.
Joe is a co-founder of The Veterans for National Security Foundation (www.thevnsf.org), a bipartisan, non-profit organization seeking to help veterans running for federal office.
Joe earned a B.S. from the United States Military Academy and a J.D. from the Boston University School of Law, where he served as an editor of the Boston University Journal of Science & Technology Law. He has also performed graduate work at Harvard University.
Joe resides in Jupiter, FL with his wife, Karin, and their German Short-Haired Pointer, Allie.
