Edward J. Barr, M.A., J.D.
Ed is a Director of the firm, specializing in defense, homeland security and international affairs. Ed spent seven years as a Foreign Service Officer in the U.S. Department of State (DOS). During his service in the diplomatic corps, Ed dealt with economic, political and security issues affecting American interests. Ed taught foreign policy at the American University in Rome and has lectured at various European Community forums. Prior to his federal service, Mr. Barr was an attorney for a Washington, DC based law firm and worked in the office of a United States Senator.
Ed retired as a colonel from the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve in 2010 after 30 years of service. He possesses over 25 years of experience with international operations in the intelligence community. He served as an advisor to the United Nations and as a liaison to foreign governments. As an intelligence officer, Ed worked with all major intelligence agencies, including the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), the Defense Intelligence Association (DIA) and the National Security Agency (NSA). He helped create an executive-level masters degree program at the Department of Defense's Joint Military Intelligence College (JMIC) and served as the program's first Marine Corps faculty member. Ed served in several countries throughout the Middle East to include Afghanistan, Iraq and Djibouti. His last active duty assignment was as General David Petraeus' J2X at U.S. Central Command.
Ed has published several articles, a novel, and has appeared on several radio and television shows, including FOX News. Mr. Barr holds the most restrictive clearances in the U.S. government. Ed has successfully developed and managed federal government grant requests. He was the Director of a Department of Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA) grant that helped expedite the transfer of technology out of government laboratories. Ed consults with several World Trade Centers and is on the Board of Directors of the New England Latin America Chamber of Commerce.
Ed is a member of the Boston, Virginia and Rhode Island Bar Associations. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Providence College and both a Masters Degree in International Affairs and Juris Doctor degree from the George Washington University.
